Combining old with new
After being disappointed with another companies awning installation Sara approached us. we completely transformed the area whilst integrating her exiting awning and decking area.
“I originally brought an awning from a large national company on the advice that we would be able to sit outside in all weathers but it became apparent very quickly the awning was just not to to the job. It was bouncing up and down in light winds and the cover has stretched in the rain. We were so disappointed as our garden is a great place for us to relax in after work and for entertaining but we could still only use it in good weather.
From my first contact with The Glass Veranda Company I had a good feeling that they understood exactly what I wanted. What made it even better for me was being able to visit the home of one of the people who worked for the company and actually see a veranda and complete glass room which really helped me visualise how my garden would look.
It was also great that they were able to build the veranda around my decking and existing awning so that I could still use it for shading purposes and save a little money.
They also came up with the clever idea of installing frosted glass on one side of the veranda to provide a bit more shelter so we could keep furniture outside in all weathers and also use the space even in the rain without getting wet.
The communication thought out was great and the install went without an issue and on time. Even though it was installed in winter weather great care was taken to minimise any mess and damage to my garden.
Since it was finished we have been able to use the garden like we have always to. In fact, we have even had breakfast outside on weekend mornings.
One of the best parts is that after seeing the glass room before we ordered we know that in the future we will add to the veranda with side shading screens so we can completely close the veranda in on windier days should we need to.
The Glass Veranda Company having given us more than we could ever have expected and I would 100% recommend them to anyone looking for a professional, courteous and understanding company.” – Sara Brown
As Sara wanted to have a more versatile all weather outdoor space it was obvious a glass veranda was the best solution. It is a fixed structure that provides shelter in all weathers whilst not feeling closed in as light is still able to flood through the glazed roof.
Whilst it was an unusual request to build the veranda around the existing awning it was something that we were able to do with ease. The glass veranda roof was fitted above the awning which mean the customer did not have to invest in a purpose made under-mounted roof shade at that stage though it could be easily retrofitted at a later date should it be required. We the adjusted the pitch and reprogrammed the existing awning so it followed the pitch and projection of the glass veranda.
Another requirement was to be able to have furniture in one corner and not have to worry about the rain coming in from the side without having to buy a full glass room initially. Our solution was to install fixed glazing on one side using opaque glass to obscure being overlooked by neighbours and provided the shelter required.
As in this situation we installed this veranda around the existing decking base which is very common we created footings to support the roof at the front edge of the garden to maximise the usable space.
As with all of our installations we always complete our installs to tight tolerances so that the option is always available to close the veranda in with sliding glass doors and convert it into a full glass room at a later date.
